Why It Works

What Changes When Your Dog Eats Real Food?

A close up photo of a multi-coloured pup's face looking directly at the camera with a happy, healthy look.

Shinier Coat & Clearer Eyes

The omega fatty acids and whole proteins in real food nourish from the inside out. Most pet owners notice a visible difference in their dog's coat within 2 - 3 weeks.

More Energy & Better Mood

Highly digestible whole food fuels real energy. Our clients report their dogs were  excited to eat again and had more energy to be themselves.

Improved Digestion

No fillers, no mystery ingredients - just food that the body recognizes and uses efficiently. Smaller, less stinky and more firm stools are one of the first things owners notice.

Reduced Inflammation & Allergies

Many dogs with chronic skin issues, itching, or digestive sensitivities see significant improvement when switched to a clean, whole-food diet - just like Doug himself.

Every ingredient is one you can read, spell, and feel good about. You'll know exactly what's going into your dog's bowl because you can see it.

  • Under 20 lbs - 2 to 3 packages per week
  • 20 to 50 lbs - 3 to 6 packages per week
  • 50 to 80 lbs - 6 to 10 packages per week
  • 80 lbs and over - 10 or more packages per week

These are starting point estimates for a healthy adult dog at a moderate activity level. For a more precise estimate based on your dog's weight and activity level, visit our Feeding Guide where you will also find our free package calculator.

Disclaimer: Doug's Kitchen is a small, family-owned business. While we carefully select every ingredient based on its nutritional value, our recipes have not yet undergone independent nutritional analysis, and we do not make claims that our standard recipes are complete or balanced for every dog.

Every dog has unique nutritional requirements based on factors such as age, breed, activity level, health status, and individual needs. We encourage pet owners to choose the feeding approach that best suits their dog and to consult their veterinarian whenever they have specific dietary concerns.

As we continue to grow, obtaining a professional nutritional analysis remains one of our priorities. Until then, we remain committed to complete transparency about our ingredients, our process, and the meals we prepare with care for every dog.

 FAQ

Your Questions, Answered

Which protein should I choose for my dog?

For most dogs, we recommend starting with a protein you know they love, if you're not sure we recommend purchasing a starter pack and letting your dog tell you. If your dog has a known or presumed  protein sensitivity please give us a call at (613) 246-6016 and we'll talk through it with you.

How do I transition from kibble to fresh food?

For our complete diets we recommend a gradual 7 - 10 day transition: start with 25% Doug's Kitchen + 75% current food for days 1 - 3, move to 50/50 for days 4–6, then 75/25 for days 7  , then 100% Doug's Kitchen. For our toppers we recommend starting with a little and gradually increasing every other day until you've reached your desired addition. We'll include a full transition guide with every first order and are available by phone or email if you have any questions.

Does fresh food need to be refrigerated?

Yes - Doug's Kitchen is real, fresh food with no artificial preservatives. It should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 4 days of opening, or you can freeze portions for up to 6 months. We'll walk you through best storage practices when you order.

What if my dog doesn't like it?

In our experience, picky eaters tend to become our biggest fans - real food is hard to resist. But if for any reason your dog isn't loving it or you're not satisfied with your first order, reach out and we'll make it right. That's our Happy Dog Promise.
